Advert analysis
0.00-0.04 secs- within the first 4 seconds, we are shown an image on Iggy pop standing against a metallic purple car bed in a zebra themed room. He's wearing an open leather jacket and zebra print trousers. He begins to talk straight away and says "so lil guy are you ready for our big road trip ?" In the background you are able to hear faint sound effects of banging symbols and muttering of annoying little voice. The camera then pans quickly to the other side of the room where we see a miniature iggy pop jumping on a suitcase trying to close it shouting "YEAAHH"

0.04-0.08- After mini Iggy has shouted "yeaah" the camera moves down to show his little puppet legs stamping on a suitcase. He stamps twice and as he does so, the sound of a drum being hit is put over the image. the drum continues for one more beat and then we are shown a symbol on screen for about half a second. when the symbol is shown, the sound of a symbol is put over the image. the image then moves quickly out of shot to the left and is followed by another image of an american billboard which is advertising "Get a life, sales motors". when the camera shot follows to the left, we hear the sound of a car beeping its horn and driving past. The shot then completely changes to mini Iggy in a car showroom stood infronto of a metallic purple GTA (numberplate: GTA LIFE.) He's with his suitcase which then falls down and you hear a sound effect of the drums as the suitcase hits the floor. Mini Iggy looks up straight after and says "and they got me some new wheels, YEAH." As he says this, the sound of the bass and little drum beat gets increasingly louder ans he begins to thrust infront of the GTA.

0.08-0.12- Just as Iggy pop begins to come into shot walking infront of the car, mini Iggy is now sat in the drivers seat of the GTA. The camera is focussed on Iggy pops chest as he strolls infront of the camera and his voice over says" you know swift cover.com..." before he finishes his diologue the shot changes to him walking infront of the car again. The film is edited in such a way that when Iggy steps infront of the car it is synced with the drum beat in teh background. He continues "can give you a car insurance quote for in just 60 seconds ?!" Whilst he's talking the shot changes from a low angle shot to a close up of Iggys face. We are able to hear the escalation in his voice when he emphisises the word 60 seconds. When he says 60 seconds, we are flashed a purple screen with white embossed writing which says 60 seconds.

0.12-0.18- After the 60 seconds is shown on the screen, the camera shoots back to the car show room and shows a close up of mini Iggy hanging out the drivers window shouting "lapaloo." The shot gets bigger to a full body shot of Iggy pop standing infront of the GTA with mini iggy leaning out the window making weird arm movements. the shot reverses from a close up to a full shot twice as Iggy pop is saying "and its totally online, so you can store your documents online..." The shot changes to view a purple screen saying print your documents online in white writing." He continues "...and print'em when you need'em!" Shot gows into a full shot of Iggy standing infornt of the car making a popping noise with his mouth as a symbol crashes" Shot reverses back to mini Iggy in the drivers seat shouting "aooeoeoeowww"

0.18-0.22- The "owww" continues as the camera is now fully focussed on mini Iggy in the drivers seat. the camera then shows his little puppet feat trying to reach the car pedals. He is crying "i cant reach." On the underlying sound of the drum/jazz beat there is now a little bongo drum role. At 0.19 seconds the camera changes shot to a busy road and sound effects of cars whizzing passed is placed over the jazz beat. We then see a clos up image of little stick legs in platfroms stumbling across a pink floor toward the metallic purple GTA. Iggy pop is putting his suitase and we are able to see both Iggys in the shot. Again the producers have managed to sync mini Iggys movements with the jazz beat in the background.

0.22-0.26- The first shot is a close up of Iggy's confused face looking down at mini Iggy. Iggy pop says " see you got some rockin new driving shoes" The shot changes from a close up of Iggy's face, to a medium shot of Iggy pop standing behind the car, to a close up of mini iggy's stupid little platforms. at 0.25 seconds, the shot shwos a close up of mini iggys puppet face saying "rock'n'roll man!"

0.26-0.30- on the 26th second exactly, a close up image of the car door slamming is shown followed by a shot of mini iggy's silly platfrom slamming down on the accelorator of the car. This is then followed by a medium shot of the outside of the back of the car screaching away from the curb. There is a sound effect of a car accelorating when we are shown this. Immidiately after this on the 0.27th second we are shown a close up of what looks like Iggy pops eye but with a purple iris in it. The eye blinks and the shot switches to a rev monitor with the ticker going rite up to maximum and coming back down again. Once the ticker reaches 0 again we are shown an establishing shot of the car cruising along a bridge into manhattan with the SFx of  a car engine revving. in the corner of the screen we are then shown the swift cover logo, and their catchphrase "GET A LIFE", SWIFTCOVER" Over the final establishing shot we here the final peices of voice overs...
Iggy- Get a life

Understanding the Relationship between sound and picture

Understanding the Relationship between sound and picture

  • Moving Image production
A moving image production is also known as a film. The moving images in a film are called video and in a film, you need to have a soundtrack to accompany your moving images. The film industry is booming these days and around 10,000 new films are brought out every year around the world. Here is a list of a few films which I came up with…

  • Sleeping Beauty
  • Free Willy
  • Independence Day
  • Pinocchio
  • Mean Girls
  • Beatle Juice
  • Jaws
  • Saw
  • Pulp Fiction
  • Layer cake
  • American Beauty
  • Slumdog Millionaire

Because there are so many films in the industry nowadays, they are usually categorised by their genre. As you can see from my list I have come up with many different film genre’s such as, Horror, Family, Chick Flick, Dark Comedy, Action etc.

  • Soundtrack
The soundtrack is the sound recorded for a motion picture film (moving image production.)

  • Diagetic Sounds/                                 Sounds from your location
  • Non Diagetic sounds /                         Music added to centre emotion
  • Digital Sound/                                     Used in video games
  • Foley Sounds/                                      Pre recorded day to day sounds in PP
  • Live Broadcasts

All of these components to a soundtrack are used all the time in moving image productions. When editing usually the soundtrack is put over the moving images to get a more accurate finished product. A diagetic sound could be something like a car moving or the background noise of a cafĂ©. Non diagetic sounds could be added when a character has just found out about a death, there would be soft slow music playing in the background to centre the character’s emotions. Foley sounds would be used to enhance tension e.g. a squeaking door, footsteps, breaking glass.

Skills needed to fill the role of a sound designer and producer:
·        To be able to chose the correct equipment when recording sounds
·        To be able to use microphones to a professional standard
·        To be able to mix audio
·        Be able to consider what the finished product will be like
·        Have contacts for hiring various types of sound equipment
·        Being able to prepare all sound equipment on set and to high standards
